Situation
Finance is the Australian Government agency responsible for outcomes in the areas of expenditure and financial management, deregulation reform and the operations of government across a wide range of policy areas.
Finance recruits new graduates each year from a very diverse range of disciplines. We were approached to design and implement a new selection process which had to be delivered in all Australian capital cities in anticipation of a considerable ramping up of graduate numbers from previously around 15 annually to over 50.
Solution
We introduced Finance to the concept of employer branding to improve its ability to attract talented staff. We produced a new range of advertising and promotional tools with a highly distinctive Finance style.
In addition we launched an online e-recruitment application system and online cognitive testing. Short-listed candidates then attended first stage assessment centres which we delivered in their nearest capital city and second stage assessment centres were held in Canberra. We tailored all simulations used in the process completely to our client’s needs
.Outcome
The new process was a great success yielding many talented individuals who have developed their careers in Finance and the APS. Our original assessment model is still used today by Finance, some seven years after its launch.
