DEEWR
Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations diagnostic assessments for development planning
Situation
The Secretary and management team of DEEWR were keen to develop the leadership skills of middle level managers in their organisation. This was in part because it was anticipated there would be a shortage of senior managers in the near future due to retirements and other demographic factors.
Solution
We developed a three year leadership program for the organisation which commenced with the use of psychometric tests and 360 degree feedback instruments to diagnose the strengths and development needs of people as they entered the leadership program.
Each participant had an in-depth feedback session with a Psychologist and prepared an action plan designed to foster their future development.
Outcome
Over the three years of the program there was an annual intake of between 20 and 30 participants. Regular evaluations of the program by participants were very favourable and there were subsequently significant career progressions for many of those who had been involved.
